This year, instruments and voices rang out with passion and persistence as Noteway students pushed themselves to new heights in our annual Practice Contest. Every participant showed dedication and heart, but one young singer rose to the top … meet Maeve, our 9-year-old practice contest champion!
Maeve’s reaction to winning was pure joy. “I felt so proud of myself,” she says, reflecting on the moment she learned she had earned first place. That sense of pride didn’t appear overnight. Behind every minute of practice was a powerful source of encouragement: her family. “My family motivates me,” Maeve shares, proving that support at home can spark big achievements.
Maeve’s love for singing began with a superstar inspiration. After discovering Taylor Swift, Maeve was captivated. “I heard Taylor Swift … she’s my favorite singer, and I loved everything she could do with her voice,” she explains. That connection quickly grew into something deeper. “It helps me get through hard times, and I can sing my feelings,” she says, showing wisdom far beyond her years.
That inspiration became even more real for Maeve at a recent Noteway student event, where she had the unforgettable opportunity to meet Paul Sidoti, Taylor Swift’s longtime guitarist and vocalist. Maeve joined fellow students as Paul shared stories from his career, answered questions, and encouraged our young musicians to follow their passion.
It’s no surprise, then, that her favorite song to perform is a Taylor Swift classic. Maeve proudly recalls, “‘You Belong With Me’ was the first song I ever sang in front of hundreds of people.”
Maeve studies voice with Noteway instructor Lauren, who she believes plays a special role in her musical journey. “She knows how to make my day, and she’s so nice,” Maeve says. Lessons with Lauren are one of the highlights of her week. What makes them so enjoyable? “Getting feedback, and also just singing itself. I like having someone hear my voice.”
Her advice to other young musicians is as bold as her voice: “Go for your dreams. You’ve got this. And if someone says something bad about you, it’s not true.”
Congratulations to Maeve on this incredible milestone! We’re proud of her dedication and can’t wait to see where her passion for music leads her next.
