Congratulations to this month’s Students of the Month, sisters Laya and Arya! Nominated for their enthusiasm, progress, and love of music, the sisters have been growing their skills and confidence through lessons at Noteway. Laya studies with instructor Marie, while Arya studies with instructor Maria. We spoke with the girls and their mom, Dhanya, about their musical journey, what inspires them, and how music has become part of their everyday lives.
For Laya, the journey started with a guitar that had been sitting at home. “We basically had a guitar just sitting there in our closet,” she explains. “We decided, okay, let’s put it to use.” What started as curiosity quickly turned into something more. “Through the classes I started really getting more interested in playing guitar, especially playing the chords and singing along.”
Arya’s musical spark began with a piano from their grandmother. “I played a few notes and it sounded so cool,” she says. “I wanted to be able to make some sort of song, but I didn’t know how to play exactly, so my mom signed me up for classes.”
Both sisters speak warmly about their teachers. Laya says Marie is “really supportive and encouraging,” adding that “whenever I mess up, she never makes me feel bad about it.” Arya shares that Maria motivates her by demonstrating the music first. “She always plays it and it sounds so good … it makes me want to practice it more.”
Their mom, Dhanya, has loved watching their growth. “Initially I sent them to learn because they like music,” she says. “But now they’re self-motivated.” She’s especially proud of the progress she’s seen over time: “They both love it, and it’s very much a part of their routine now.”
The sisters also enjoy performing in Noteway’s student concerts. “There’s a little bit of butterflies,” Laya shares, “but when you get through the performance and see all the encouraging messages, it feels really good.” Arya agrees: “I love student concerts because I like showing people what I know.”
Dhanya has a long-term dream for the family, too: “Someday we’ll make that girl band happen.”
